Original oil pastel mini painted by Kristin Vanderlip

"The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea" (Isak Dineson).

Hand painted with oil pastels on archival paper, this painting was inspired by my many trips to Fort Funston Beach, CA. It features thick, textured layers revealing a coastal scene along the Pacific Ocean complete with a cliff, bright succulents in bloom, a sandy path, a moody ocean, and a foggy, gray sky. As I reflected on my time here in nature, the seasons of sorrow and tears, the sweat on my skin from hiking the trails down to the beach, the saltwater 'sea,' and the solace I find here, this quote and title for the painting seemed quite fitting.
