A COLLECTION OF SMALL JOYS
I spent the first week of January in Paris, where I visited the original Sennelier shop (the maker of my favorite oil pastels). I bought several jumbo oil pastels in colors that made my heart come alive with joy. In Paris, I was introduced to the French phrase joie de vivre—the joy of living.
Back home in my California studio, in the stillness and gray of winter, this French phrase made its way into me and this collection began to take shape. What emerged felt like an awakening in the deep of winter, like coming out of a slumber. I am not a naturally bubbly person yet each bright painting felt like a spark of joy. And not just any joy. A deeper joy. A defiant joy. A resurrected and holy joy.
These paintings may be around 3x4 inches, but I hope they offer you even the smallest bits of beauty, joy, and wonder, making a remarkably big impact. I hope they feel like a gentle yet powerful nudge that feels like a resurrection and helps you come alive in the life you have.
To Come Alive feels like the right name for a spring collection.
To healing.

WHY MINIS?
Yes! Mini artwork can be displayed in a variety of ways in a variety of spaces! You could find a traditional frame that fits your piece and display it on a table or wall. You could also purchase a card holder to use to display the art. For those more casual or eclectic in design style, you could hang your art on a bulletin board or clip it to a decorative string or garland. I share more ideas at the bottom of my art page home.
