it's time for you to get the support you deserve

Coaching + Creative Recovery for Writers

You are the only one who can write your words and much of your writing will happen in solitude. However, the truth is that trying to do this writing thing alone is a recipe for disaster. You weren't meant write in a bubble of isolation. You need a support system. Every writer needs a support system. As a certified writing coach, fellow writer, and recovering creative who understands this writing life, I'm here to help.

if you're feeling...

FRUSTRATED

  • trying to get the thoughts in your head out onto the page...
  • by the constant nagging of a loud inner critic...
  • by a lack of support or a lack of time to write...

OVERWHELMED

  • by all the writerly things you feel like you should be doing...
  • by an already busy life, struggling to figure out where and how writing can fit in...
  • by the emotional rollercoaster of writing and sharing your words...
  • by all the writerly things on the path to publishing

DISCOURAGED

  • because you're not making the progress you'd like to be making...
  • because you feel like you're behind...
  • by another rejection and wondering if you should just quit this writing thing...

I GET IT. i've been there.

I can help

Seven years ago, creative wounds + unhealthy mindsets were holding me back and making me miserable.

I spent years feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and discouraged. For a time, I buried my creativity and desires to write. As I sought to uncover them, I floundered trying to do-it-all myself. I burnt out fast. And, I'd take it out on my people. Like with most things, it took getting to a place where things felt unbearable for something to change. I began a journey of, not only healing the grief I carried, but of creative recovery. I began to embrace and make progress in my writing life as I sought community, found my support systems, and began to work with a therapist and writing coach.

  • I have a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. And I've taken continuing studies courses at Yale and Stanford on religious studies, creative writing, and communications.

  • In the past couple of years, I've led hundreds of writers through the best-selling book on creative recovery, The Artist's Way.

  • I became a certified writing coach to help writers like you embrace your life as a writer and help you make progress in your writing.

  • My writing has been featured online on (in)courage and Proverbs 31 Ministries' the First 5 App and in printed collections published by Proverbs 31 Ministries and DaySpring. Find a list with links to publications here on my LinkedIn profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is coaching? Will you be able to answer my questions and give me feedback about my writing?

Please read the Terms + Conditions for coaching (including refund policies, etc.); when you purchase a session or package you are agreeing to them.

As your writing coach, I will ask powerful questions and use empathetic listening to help you tap into your inner wisdom and power so that you can grow in curiosity, compassion, and confidence as a writer.

Coaching focuses on professional and creative growth and facilitates progress by helping you solve problems intuitively, find clarity, and support goal-setting and action-oriented steps determined by YOU the client (YOU are the expert).

If you have questions about the writing process or publishing, you're probably looking for a consultation, which I do not offer at this time. Consulting focuses on me providing you with information, specific feedback, and advice. This is not coaching.
